Thermal Expansion & Building Settlement
All pipes and vessels expand and contract in direct proportion to a temperature change. Whenever pipes are routed across structural movement joints in buildings, roads, bridges etc., they will be subjected to displacements.
Our expansion & building settlement products are installed to control this thermally induced expansion and contraction, and pipe movements caused by structural settlement.
Advanced Technical Products Ltd (ATP Ireland) are able to offer technical advice or a full design through our suppliers, for any expansion or building movement problem, and we will always strive to achieve the most efficient and cost-effective scheme for our clients.
Expansion Joints are used to physically compensate for the movements of the pipework. They can be designed to suit almost any combination of working temperature, pressure and movement capability, following national and international codes and standards such as EJMA (Expansion Joint Manufacturers Association) and PED (Pressure Equipment Directive).
We offer many of these products with fully certified WRAS Approval for use on potable and domestic water systems.
Once our expansion joints have been fitted, our Guides will then direct the movement into the expansion joints. They are also used to control the pipework in layouts where the inherent natural flexibility can be exploited.
For certain applications, Skids may be required to support the pipework, allowing movement in both horizontal planes.
Anchors rigidly hold the forces developed in the pipe system, and direct them into the adjacent structure. They are required to control the pipework, whether in schemes using natural flexibility or expansion joints, to ensure that the pipe system functions as designed.
